About Steven Jones

A significant time in Steven Jones’ artistic development was during the late1970s and early 1980s when he studied art in Patrick Betaudier’s Atelier Neo-Medici outside of Paris. While there he learned a method of painting called the Technique Mixte, that involves tempera emulsions and oil/resin glazes. This approach is reputed to be similar to the methodologies of the 15th century Flemish painter Jan van Eyck. Jones’ subjects are in the manner of 17th century Dutch still-life painters, and he shares their concerns for light and other formal relationships. Jones has exhibited his work internationally and has won many awards. His works are in numerous private and public collections. Jones is currently based outside Chicago.

Since 1984, Jones has served as Art Gallery Curator for the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois. He curates art exhibitions for the college’s gallery and manages a collection of 400 works of art. In addition, Jones teaches a beginning and advanced painting class at the college.
